My Having, Being And Doing Motivation For Building Wealth

22 June 2008 4 Comments

What motivates you to work hard and to strive for financial success? I find it to be a good exercise to break up into three pieces the things that motivate me. These three categories are having, being and doing. In this article I will give you some examples of what motivates me in my life to work hard and build wealth. I hope my examples will help bring into focus the things that drive you in your life.

Having A Boat

Having the resources to own a boat is a great goal mine. Owning a boat is about so much more than the actual vessel; it is a lifestyle that embraces relaxation, beauty and time with family. I truly desire to be able to take my family on boat trips and create memories that will last a life time.

Owning a boat like the one pictured would allow the ability to cruise long distances, sleep on the boat, and maximize interactivity with family members and friends.

Can you see yourself owning this boat? I sure can.

Being A Great Father And Husband

When I think about being a good father and husband to my family, I think about having lots of time to spend with them. Time to experience, get to know, and have fun with my family is a huge priority to me. How can I drive my lifestyle in the direction to have more freedom and flexibility which will allow more time with my family? I hope to build self sufficient income streams in my life that provide financial security and maximum flexibility.

Doing World Travel

Travel and experiencing new places and people are some of the most joyful things to experience in life. Having the means and ability to travel all over the world would be an amazing luxury.

Above you will see images of the W Retreat and Spa in the Maldives. W Hotels, one of my favorite hotel brands, has an amazing resort in the middle of the Indian Ocean. The room pictured above can run from $3,000-$6,000 a night, I believe. Amazing place.

You’ve seen a glimpse of what motivates me. These motivations help me work hard, research more investments, write articles for my blog, and keep me focused on building wealth for myself and my family.

Have you ever sat down and determined what exactly is your motivation? Don’t let your life move in whatever direction you get pushed; be intentional. Break your motivation up into three categories like I did: having, being, and doing. This will help you get started. Then it’s a matter of implementing a plan to reach your goals. Easy, right? 🙂

We share a lot of the same values. A mentor of mine told me that there are four legacies in this world… When you become financially free, it allows you to have time freedom. Time freedom allows you to build a family. And that lets you give back to this world.

    Money -> Time -> Family -> Volunteering

So that sums it up for me… I want the time to travel the world and spend with my family. And then I’d like to get into the non-profit world.

    Love the blog!

Thanks for the comment. Considering I have my first child on the way, hopefully I can do these things in parallel!

Just discovered your blog and have enjoyed reading through the posts! I share your goals as well and agree that focusing on the prize will motivate you to work hard to achieve your goals. I am working hard to generate passive income online so that I can spend more time with my family, go fishing and travel more. It is sometimes easy to get caught up in the work and forget about the “whys.”

    Thanks for the reminder!

Great work Kevin! I think everyone should plan to buy a big boat in the future!
