What a circus. Obama is setting up a debt commission, actually formally named the National Commission on Fiscal Responsibility and Reform. Sounds fancy. The commission will bring in a few former politicians from both sides of the aisle to solve the countries fiscal woes. Do these guys get paid to be on this commission? Are we going into further debt in order to pay people to figure out how to get out of debt? How confident are you in that this debt commission will result in anything? Is this silly …

Democrat Senator Bayh recently announced that he is not seeking re-election. While many on the Republican side are quick to claim that this is because he is in trouble with regards to getting re-elected, Bayh is saying otherwise. Bayh had some harsh words for the entire political system.

It seems like there are new personal finance blogs popping up daily in the PFB (personal finance blogosphere). I guess some people believe its a gold rush or a quick path to good money. Most will be disappointed. We bloggers love to throw around numbers of how many new blogs are created every day, but nobody likes to talk about how many blogs are stopped and/or destroyed each day. For example, if you look at the tail end of the Top 100 PF blog list maintained by Wisebread, many of …

I was getting a cup of coffee the other day from the little cafe in the building I work in, and the two employees were talking about their career aspirations outside of the field of pouring coffee. The one guy was saying how he wanted to get into a non-profit company and work there. Interestingly, I soon realized that it had nothing to do with one particular area or cause or industry, but rather, just the idea of working for a non-profit.
I walked away thinking about it and wondering why …

One of the biggest problems with America is the lack of understanding of government and government assets. It is absolutely crucial that people start to learn that government has nothing. This includes money and debt. The government’s money is your money, and the government’s debt is your debt. Let me explain further.
When people look for welfare or handouts from government, too often they don’t understand that government does not have a portfolio of assets that they can easily access to help somebody out. They must take those assets from somebody …
