Letter Re: Monthly Blog Update

7 April 2010 One Comment

I have been reading your blog (through RSS) regularly for several months now, and your quality content and regularly increasing revenue streams are truly inspirational.

I have been thinking about starting a blog (or two) for months now, and have some ideas about initial material, but don’t have a definitive resource on how to get started the right way.

Can you point me to any non-BS references online or to some books that describe how to avoid beginner’s pitfalls?
I’m also extremely interested in your partnership program.

Look forward to working with you.

Kevin Replies: Thanks for the email.  The biggest pitfall you have to avoid is just getting burned out because you really won’t see any results in the first several months, maybe even first 6 months, and even your first year will bring minimal results.

To avoid the pitfall, I strongly recommend writing as much content as possible prior to launching your blog.  You really can’t over-do this step.  Write 50 articles pre-launch if possible.

In terms of the technical setup, I’d encourage you to use Dreamhost since its so simple and cheap – if you do, let me know and I’ll give you a code to use.  Dreamhost + wordpress is the simplest setup (there are some performance issues, but in the beginning it won’t matter).  Get a free, decent-looking theme.  Dont pay for one.  Your theme won’t make or break your blog unless its a terrible theme, but there are plenty of free ones.

Good luck.

Keep the emails coming.  I respond to every single one!
