Getting What You Want in Life is Simpler than You Think

canstockphoto0753048Close your eyes and imagine your ideal life. Now open them and look around at the life you lead now. Odds are, there is quite a discrepancy between the life you would like to live and the one you are actually living. Most people just accept that real life is different from the lives they dream of and plod on until it’s time for retirement. Some people refuse to settle, though, and grab the chance to live out their dreams. You may even know someone who grew up under the same circumstances you did but whose life took a very different path.

What’s the difference between the average discontented plodder and these larger-than-life go-getters? Are they geniuses? Were they born with silver spoons in their mouths? Are they just plain lucky? Perhaps some of them do fall into these categories. The biggest difference, though, is that people who reach their goals have the ability to get up off the couch and do what it takes to achieve their dreams.

It’s no secret that much of the good stuff in life requires effort. Often, it requires sustained effort. Toned bodies, beautiful lawns and MBAs all take a willingness to regularly get up and work for an extended period of time. They also provide big personal payoffs. Take another look at that ideal life you haven’t been living. What can you start doing today that will get you closer to your dream? Resolve to do it and get started today. Go for a walk or dust off that gym membership card this afternoon. Roll up your sleeves and start pruning or fertilizing. Find an accredited university that offers an online MBA degree and request more information.

Don’t be afraid of a little hard work. Along the way, however, you may be surprised to discover that part of the joy is found in the very effort it takes to reach your goals. Exercise is just a grownup’s name for play, after all, and many people find great pleasure in gardening. Even getting that MBA isn’t the ordeal it once was; reputable schools such as Ohio University now offer graduate business degrees that you can earn in just two years without ever having to leave your own home.
