7 Easy Ways to Make Extra Cash as a Student

1 January 2017 2 Comments

Being a student is an expensive business. It costs thousands of dollars a year in tuition fees alone to study at most U.S. colleges, so by the time you have added on the costs associated with buying textbooks, food, drinks and paying for your accommodation, you can easily be up to your neck in debt. For a student enrolled on a masters degree in nursing at the University of Cincinnati, this can be a real worry. Luckily, there are ways and means to earn some extra cash while you check the RN to MSN curriculum.

The most obvious way to make extra money while you are at college is by taking a part-time job in a bar, café, restaurant, or store. This works for many people, but if it doesn’t hit the mark for you, check out the following options.

Work as a Private Tutor

If you like teaching, sell your skills as a tutor. Working as a private tutor is very profitable, but you will need to be good at helping others to learn. It’s best to stick to teaching a subject you know enough about, i.e. your degree subject, so you don’t end up being caught out by a lack of knowledge.

Sell Revision Notes

Your old revision notes might be taking up unwanted space in your dorm, so instead of throwing them away, sell them to a student in a year below. They could probably use some extra help studying for their exams.

Write Articles and Reviews

Are you good at stringing a sentence together? If so, you could make a decent part-time living from writing articles, product reviews and blog posts. Look for work on freelancer sites such as Upwork, or advertise your services on Facebook. There are always plenty of website owners looking for competent writers to provide interesting and non-plagiarized content.

Sign Up for Cashback Sites

Sign up for cashback websites and you could earn money by buying the things you would have bought anyway. These sites earn commission when you follow a link to the online store, so if you make a purchase, they make a commission and then give you a percentage of the fee. It’s easy money, and if you shop a lot, the commission can soon add up.

Sell on eBay

If you have plenty of unwanted clothing, gadgets and miscellaneous junk, sell it on eBay and bank the proceeds.

Sell Crafts on Etsy

Are you good at crafts? Can you make twee little knitted dolls? If so, start selling your products on sites like Etsy. Once you build up a reputation, you can make good money from your hobby.

Become a Social Media Influencer

Spend enough time on social media and it won’t be long before you have hundreds of followers. People with busy and popular social media accounts can make money by promoting products and services. Your cute cate might also become famous, which is pretty cool.

Don’t overlook any opportunity to make some extra money on the side, as long as it’s legal!
