Degrees That Are Worth the Investment

University is very expensive. Coupled with the rising costs of living, it can be difficult to manage. If you are trying to choose the right degree for you, you want to make sure it’s going to be worth it, and that you’ll have further education options and career paths open to you once to graduate. It isn’t necessarily about trying to get a high paying job. Often these are the ones with the most competition and the fewest number of available jobs. Sometimes you’re better off aiming for a job you love, in a growing industry where you will never have to worry about the availability of work.

Healthcare isn’t just about being a doctor. Studying healthcare, or a related degree at undergraduate level will give you so many options later. There’s a huge nursing shortage in this country, so that’s one area in which there will always be jobs. Other jobs include nurse management, general practitioner and surgery. Outside of medical practice you could study for a health communication degree and go on to work in healthcare marketing, PR, sales or management. Masters in health communications, as well as other higher health education degrees are often available online.

It’s another truth that the world will always need lawyers. There is a lot of competition for law jobs, so if this is something you are interested in, consider pursuing a specialty, such as employment law, and making yourself a specialist in your field.

Teachers are often in short supply. A growing population and increasing class sizes, as well as the fact that more people than ever are continuing their education after school, means teachers are in demand.

Computers are everywhere. So much is now done online, or wirelessly that many industries rely on computers and the internet to work. In the future, this will be even more true. Technology is developing at an incredibly quick rate, who knows where this will lead? A degree in any form of computing could take you somewhere wonderfully exciting.

A degree in business would be great if you ever wanted to start up on your own. It would give you all the skills you need to get there. The internet has allowed more people than ever to start their own business, but this means there’s a lot of competition. A business degree could be what sets your company apart.

Digital marketing is changing the face of marketing. Strategies today are a lot different than they were just 5 years ago. There could not be a better time to study marketing. The current, up to date knowledge could give you an advantage over much more experienced professionals.

Of course, it’s very important to take into account what you enjoy, what you are good at and what you want to do. If you have a dream that isn’t on this list, go for it! But if you’re not sure, studying one of these degrees would give you great options for the future. Remember to look at online courses for even more options.

Engineering degrees (civil, mechanical, power, etc.) are great degree options as well.
