A Growing Trend
The reality is that there are a number of factors that will contribute to self employment becoming a growing trend. These are as follows:
- 21st Century Employment – I have made the case previously that employment in the 21st century will continue to be more different than that of the 20th century. In the last century, workers tended to have a single skill and have a secure job with a single employer for their entire career. In the 21st century, it is the opposite. The opposite means individuals either work for a multitude of employers, and maybe even more so, work as contractors and self employed individuals. Individuals to succeed will need to have a range of skills and seek work in a number of areas. You can read more on 21st century employment by clicking here.
- High Unemployment – Since the economic downturn began in 2008, unemployment has remained high. Many economists as well as myself anticipate unemployment remaining stubbornly high for years to come – the most pessimistic say maybe forever. There is a compelling case that the U.S. (and other developed countries) have reached a productive peak and there just simply aren’t enough jobs at the pay we have become accustomed to available to significantly decrease unemployment. Unemployed individuals need to find alternative means to earn a living rather than sitting around waiting for the economy to recover just because most people will say that eventually it will. I encourage you to become a regular reader of the blog content here at 20smoney.com for continued insight into the economy moving forward.
The above two factors in addition to other factors not mentioned here will contribute to the growing trend of individuals being self employed. Later on, we will see individual examples and ideas that you can use to achieve success as a self employed individual.
