To start off this month’s online business picture, I want to explain why I do this. If you’re new to the blog, you might wonder why I’m talking about blogging on a blog about financial topics. Well, my view is that creating secondary income sources is the most impactful thing you can do for your finances. Furthermore, creating online income is probably the easiest and lowest risk opportunity for you to create another income stream. This report is my monthly update on this journey.

A Change
Typically, I do a monthly blog update. This month we get away from a single-blog focus and move towards a more robust online business update – this blog being a major component of the overall picture. You will notice in this month’s update that I provide a little less detail on traffic, but instead focus on breaking down the metrics on a number of what I call “web properties.” I hope you enjoy…

This is part three in the series discussing the future of making money online. The inspiration for this series was a Wired article called “The Web is Dead.” If you haven’t already done so, I’d encourage you to read parts one and two before reading this.
We have already discussed some major observations and trends that I see with regards to the world wide web and specifically doing business on it. Many of the trends revolve around search and how people go about getting information. In part three, we turn to …

If you follow my blog, you know that I recently started a new website with a few other people called Saturday Down South. In just two months of being online, the traffic is roughly 4x the traffic of 20smoney.com which has been online over two years. Obviously, we’re pumped about the success that we’ve reached at this point.

Interesting news article out on the city of Philadelphia requiring bloggers to pay a $300 “license” fee in order to keep blogging. Amazingly, the example used in the article is a “blogger” who has made about $50 total from online activities so the $300 is 6x her income from the web. The main focus here is that cities, states, and the Feds are strapped for cash and are looking for new ways to bring in revenue. Blogs and online business activity is a likely target in the future since there …

Recently, a visitor to 20smoney.com emailed me with some questions on blogging, namely how to grow and expand a blog in order to make money on it. Here is the conversation that followed (published with permission and with anonymity):
Hi Kevin,
I just found your blog today by searching “blog growth” in Google. I have a seven month old blog that I built from scratch using Thesis and I’m getting to the point I’m sure many bloggers get – I’m wondering if all the work is for something, or for nothing. I …

As you know I consider myself somewhat of a web entrepreneur. I own a couple websites in an attempt to make a lot of money online. Well, I’ve recently launched a new website – of which an announcement will be made on here shortly – and this time, I’m one of three responsible.
First, working on a team is such a blessing. Wow, what a great experience it is to not have to do all the work. It’d be impossible for me considering my daily work load already with respect to …
