Blogging, Quick Hits »

Interesting news article out on the city of Philadelphia requiring bloggers to pay a $300 “license” fee in order to keep blogging.  Amazingly, the example used in the article is a “blogger” who has made about $50 total from online activities so the $300 is 6x her income from the web.  The main focus here is that cities, states, and the Feds are strapped for cash and are looking for new ways to bring in revenue. Blogs and online business activity is a likely target in the future since there …

How To Grow Your Blog (A Recent Email Conversation)

Recently, a visitor to 20smoney.com emailed me with some questions on blogging, namely how to grow and expand a blog in order to make money on it.  Here is the conversation that followed (published with permission and with anonymity):
Hi Kevin,
I just found your blog today by searching “blog growth” in Google.  I have a seven month old blog that I built from scratch using Thesis and I’m getting to the point I’m sure many bloggers get – I’m wondering if all the work is for something, or for nothing.  I …

The Ideal Three Man Team To Launch A Website

As you know I consider myself somewhat of a web entrepreneur.  I own a couple websites in an attempt to make a lot of money online.  Well, I’ve recently launched a new website – of which an announcement will be made on here shortly – and this time, I’m one of three responsible.
First, working on a team is such a blessing.  Wow, what a great experience it is to not have to do all the work.  It’d be impossible for me considering my daily work load already with respect to …

Monthly Blog Update – July 2010

Big move up in traffic in July. An increase of over 40% in terms of total visits. This is the “next leg up” that I’ve been working towards. Now, the attention turns to maintaining this new level of traffic and then building for the next leg up. The pattern seems to be shoot up, plateau for a few months, then another shot upwards, followed by another plateau.

Government A Risk To Online Income?

Interestingly, the Feds shutdown a network of 73,000 blogs this past weekend.  Many are critical of this move since it basically shut down a huge network of websites because of a handful of potentially criminal blogs within that larger group.  Coming off the heels of the possible legislation that grants the President authority to have a kill switch for the entire internet, this is definitely possibly infringing on freedom of speech rights that many Americans hold so dear.
If government is able to kill the internet for up to four months, …

If you browse the 100’s of “how-to-blog” sites out there, it’s unlikely that you ever get any information or advice past the basics.  By basics I mean telling you to write frequently, comment on other blogs, write guest posts, etc. – you know, the basic common sense stuff.  This new series for bloggers is called Next Level Blogging; it is intended to help bloggers get to the next level.  It’s primarily for bloggers who are established and have a blog up and running with some decent traffic.  It’s geared to help …

Monthly Blog Update – June 2010

Introduction
To start off this month’s update on online income and traffic, I want to explain why I do this.  If you’re new to the blog, you might wonder why I’m talking about blogging on a blog about financial topics.  Well, my view is that creating secondary income sources is the most impactful thing you can do for your finances.  Furthermore, creating online income is probably the easiest and lowest risk opportunity for you to create another income stream.  This report is my monthly update on this journey.
As you can tell …
